Well, in a few days time we will have a new President. As much as I don’t like the man, it is historical. however that being said, thus far the President-Elect (or President-Theft, like his predecessor) has chosen mostly former Clinton people. He has made news by golfing shirtless, preparing to throw a large Inargural bash around $140 mill. When Bush threw one that was $40 mil, all the liberal media was screming and ranting. Yet now they are silent. I hated Bush, and still do. Yet here is someone else that is making these negative headlines and no one says a thing. The people who voted for this man need to not fall into the same trap as those who voted for Bush, Do not gloss over what he is or will do. Too many people turned a blind eye on what Bush was doing and allowed fear of being unpatriotic to confront the man in the office. You can stand angainst the man who is President without stand against the title to which he is elected. The man is the office, but the office is not that one man.
There is nothing wrong with admiration for the First African American President, but there is something wrong if you ignore what he does in the Office. I do not imagine that President Obama will start any wars, or I hope so. And should he do so, I hope that people will point out the fallicies of doing so, as those who did it for Bush.
Now while this new hurdle is finally out of the way, there is still a Huge (Recently repaired) Glass ceiling. The first serious female contender for President, was stepped on by a man. Everyone from the Media to the politicians, to the leaders of the party did all they could to quash her. And once she was down and out, proceeded to attack and take down another strong female candidate for public office, the Vice Presidency. Once again women were thrown under the bus by a misogynistic society. If it had been jut the one, it might have been glossed over. But it was both women, one from each side of the aisle.
What is worst about it all, was that it was one Party doing most of the bashing. The Dem party tore into one of its own, as well as the “Liberal” media. If it hadn’t been for all the trashing of Clinton and the backroom deals and all of the media crap, I would probably have stood behind Obama. Then to prove that it wasn’t just a “Clinton” thing, everybody goes after Sarah Palin. The Media, and DNC show their distaste of Women.
History may be being made, but it just shows, when it comes to the White House it’s still “Men Only”. And the “Good ol’ Boys Club”.
Admittedly race relations in this country have been abismal. Just because of someone’s skin color, they have been treated differently and very poorly. From Slavery, to segregation, to fairness. This is something that has gone on for too long, hundreds of years. I still cannot imagine why even in today’s world skin color can be an issue for someone. The only thing that should ever bother anyone is behavior.
However, far longer has been the struggles of Women. Since ancient times, women have been made as even less the people. An object to desire and nothing more. Sure, there has been those who actually loved their wives in antiquity, but even still women were treated harshly. They weren’t allowed to read, in some societies weren’t allowed to speak without a Man’s permission. The highest power has been from Female Queens or rulers. And that was only after the death of a King, or the lack of a Male offspring. Women have spent thousands of years fighting to be seen as Human rather than walking ovens, or sex objects. This country that was founded on Freedom and supposed “Equality” has had a very bad track record of providing Equality and liberty to everyone.
We’ve had Slavery, denigration of women, and repression of Gays. The racism towards the Irish, Italians and other immigrants coming to this country from it’s founding. I hope that with the Inauguration of the first African American president, that we will fnally throw off the chains of oppression and move forward. Yes, I did not vote for Obama, no I still feel ok with my desicion to vote for McCain. But I can hope that Obama will not be as bad as I think, and hope that he will do well for us as a whole.
For me to see this President as a good one, I will have to see that the future is wide open for ALL who want to be president, not just Heterosexual Christian Males. Also I will watch how he handles threats against our country, and threats of Terrorism.
I did not vote for Bush (either time), but after 9/11 I threw my support behind the Presidency. It was my way of showing my patriotism and my feelings of unity in a time of crises. However, after the many months waiting for retaliation agaisnt our attackers, the War in Iraq, and the failure to capture Bin Laden, I went right back to hating the man. For me, he is the WORST President in History.
